REVIEW: I was a fan of AFI since I heard The Art of Drowning (2000) so needless to say I was definitely looking forward to this album. However when it came out, I''ll admit I was a bit taken aback. Upon first listen it''s a huge change, but after digesting it in full, you start to see that they haven''t abandoned their roots, they''ve just expanded on them. AFI have taken their sound and taken to whole new level entirely.

Davey''s voice is exceptional on this album from start to glitter-goth finish as he explores a bit more of his range, not being afraid to add some falsetto but still giving that punk shout he''s known for. As for the rest of the band, they are all in fine form and sound amazing, especially given that on this, their first major label record, they had more money to play with for recording and for equipment of course. But that''s not to say that it''s all attributed to that, on the contrary, lots of money and expensive equipment a good song does not make. No, in fact this album has some of AFI''s most inventive and original tracks, not to mention exception skill (check out Jade''s solo on "Dancing Through Sunday"). Yes this is still AFI, but its AFI taken to the next level.
