REVIEW:
Deja Vudoo puts on a hell of a live show. Tina Marie is an incredible singer and frontwoman and the rest of the band are just amazing musicians. The whole band is just so animated and entertaining and the songs are full and powerful with the keyboards and eerie samples further deepening their sound. But many times a band with an incredible live presence loses some of that power going into the studio...
Not so with Deja Vudoo's debut album, "Scratching the Surface". That very same power is translated perfectly in each and every track. The album starts out strong with the distorted propaganda of 'lead me not into temptation, forever will not find salvation. For I am not your god', which sort of sets the dark tone for the rest of the album. Every song here will get stuck in your head, every chorus will make you think with the clever and insightful lyrics. The songs range from straight-up rock to metal to gothic and even a little classic rock and industrial, you never know what to expect next. Don't think for a second that you can just write them off as "just another female fronted band". Get all those Evanescence comparisons out of your head right now, because this album blows them out of the water, from the first song to the last. Simple as that. This is rock done right.
